Wacky Wednesday - Rockefeller Preserve

I have been to Rockefeller Preserve so many times and have seen it through the seasons, but I think yesterday we saw it in a new light. There were fields and fields of tall grasses and wildflowers. The children had the time of their lives running through and dare it say it, picking wildflowers for their parents! Believe me there were enough to go around.

After a while the boys resumed "manly instincts" and were much more content to collect rocks than flowers.

This adventure was bittersweet for the Allan family, as this was the last time Daddy will accompany us for a while as he started his new job today! Exciting stuff, but we will really miss not having him around during the week to hang out and have fun on these Kids Unplugged outings. I guess I will have to carry the camera bag from now on!

Memorial Day Parade Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow

What a beautiful morning for a parade. The Allan boys were very excited as they were going to be riding in "Daddy's Fire Truck" today. Such a special treat.

Memorial Day is a day to honor the men and women who courageously served their country. A day to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. It was certainly true in our villages today as so many people lined the streets of Main and Broadway wishing to remember our Veterans of War.

The Sleepy Hollow High School Band sounded magnificent and proudly represented the youth of our village in such a dignified way.

The ceremony in Patriots Park was also very well attended by both young and old.

Favorite Shot of the week

On Friday Campbell and I had lunch with Kiera and Karen. The weather was fabulous and whilst Karen and I caught up and I admired her garden, Campbell and Kiera played.

I was treated to a birthday cake, strawberries and cream! Summer is coming! I took this photo of Kiera (not) eating the cake before Mommy served it.

PJ Day at Tappan Hill

On Tuesday morning Ms Marx Pre K classes enjoyed a fun packed morning on Pajama Day. All of the children looks so cute in their nightwear.

Bedtime stories were read to them by Ms Marx, crafts included coloring, cutting and pasting a bedtime rhyme for each child to bring home.

They talked about the importance of bedtime routine and getting enough sleep.

Each child had a chance to help peel oranges and make pancakes with Ms Marx and Mrs Tola. They were so excited to sit and feast on their creations!

Sundays Soccer Game

I am a little behind with my blogging this week. The birthday celebrations got in the way!

This week the Crocodiles played against the Gators. They conceded a few too many goals, but had a good time all the same.

Brendan's Communion Party

On Sunday we had the privilege of celebrating Brendan's First Holy Communion with his family. It was a very special day for the Green Family and they were fortunate to be joined by the Monsignor, Father Mazza.

It was wonderful to meet Brendan's Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and cousins. Thank you so much for inviting us to be part of this important day in your families life.

Saturday continued................

Directly from Patriots Park I joined Craig, Cameron and Campbell on the roof terrace of Sunflour Cafe in Sleepy Hollow to watch the Armed Forces Day Parade.

Saturday Shoots

This morning I met with the McGoey Family again. We decided on Horan's Landing as our location today. Fortunately the rain held off and we got some great shots by the Hudson River. The children looked fabulous. It was great to see them again.

After a short interlude I met with The Poret Family in Patriots Park for their first family shoot. Perfect way to commemorate Anna's First Birthday. The children looked adorable. I have never seen two big brothers so in love with their baby sister as these two are, so cute to see.

I love this photo, Anna is having such a great time!! I can almost hear her saying "Cheeeeeeeeese!"

Thank you so such a fun afternoon.

Third Friday

I LOVE TARRYTOWN!!

Today is Third Friday, the sun was shining and everyone was out tonight to enjoy our home town. This was a BIG night........ the Bird House Making Competition results. The theme this year was Reuse Recycle. What a fabulous job everyone did with their creative skills. I was so impressed. My favorite was the mosaic tiled one. I have to say though I was glad not to be one of the judges.

Town Wide Kid Helper Meeting

This afternoon the members of the Town Wide Kid Helpers met in The Nu Toy Store in Tarrytown.

Our agenda this month was to talk about and draft a letter to Army Sgt Brian Roussel, who is currently serving in Iraq. He is also a Sleepy Hollow Fire Fighter. We started off looking at the globe and seeing how far Iraq is from New York. We talked about how life is very different living in Iraq and so far away from his family and friends.

The children came up with some very thoughtful ideas which will be included in the letter to him. As a little extra project the children were each given a piece of sketch paper on which they can paint or draw a picture of Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow to be included with the letter.

Glenville Woods Slideshow

Wacky Wednesday

This afternoon the Kids Unplugged venue was yet another spot that the Allan Family had not explored before. Nestled off of the busy business district of Rte 119 at Dunnings Drive, Tarrytown is Glenville Woods. The group met at the playground and the children spent some time climbing the play structure before running off to explore the nearby pond. Goslings and ducklings were swimming and being heavily guarded by their watchful, protective parents.

The children then delighted in avoiding using the beautiful wooden bridge and preferred to cross the pond using the large bolders as stepping stones. Everyone made in across in one piece, with only one or two wet feet!

We took a lovely stroll through the woods following the orange trail markers and then making a little loop and returning back to the pond where most families lingered for a while giving the children an opportunity to rediscover the playground.

The weather was gorgeous. Do not want to tempt fate, but we have been lucky for the past few Wednesdays to have the sun shining down on us during these fun outings. Shame we had not brought along a bottle of wine!!

Desmond and Kyra's First Holy Communion

This morning I left Tarrytown and headed to St Marys Church, Ridgefield, CT for the First Holy Communion of twins, Desmond and Kyra McGoey. Both children looked delightful in their beautiful outfits.

After the ceremony we took photographs of Kyra and Desmond with their parents, Desmond and Lynda as well as their younger siblings, Falyn, John and Austin. The family looked magnificent and it was a joy to be able to capture this momentous day.

The party followed at the McGoey home. The children had a Sponge Bob Bounce House set up in the yard and it kept them entertained for hours.

Wacky Wednesday

This weeks Wacky Wednesday with the Kids Unplugged group took us to Hartsdale. We met at Harts Brook Park and Preserve. The group is growing each week, which is fabulous.

Harts Brook is a unique 125-acre woodland habitat accessible by trails with an abundance of native flora, fauna, streams, ponds, and pristine woods. It includes about 10 acres cultivated with specimen trees, bushes, and rolling lawns.

There is an amazing Demonstration Garden which I hope to go back to in the near future. It is planted and maintained by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Westchester. There are vegetable, fruit, herb and shade gardens as well as perennial and annual flower beds and borders.

The highlight of the afternoon for the children was when Stella found a four leaf clover. It sent the rest of the children into a searching frenzy!

Emma's Communion Celebration

The Healy family celebrated Emma's First Holy Communion yesterday with an amazing party held at the Kerry Club, Yonkers, NY. The young attendees were entertained by Sunny the Clown, who gave the children temporary tattoos of their favorite cartoon characters. She then performed a magic show, which had the children in stitches. Sunny rounded off the afternoon with balloon making and presented Emma with a special balloon bouquet.

Just when things could not get any better an ice cream truck arrived outside the club. The children were thrilled with this treat. Once the sugar kicked in there was lots of energy for the limbo and some fun dancing to the music, which was provided by THS.

This will certainly be a day that Emma will be able to remember for years to come.
